Tun Hakim Tun Hasnul Azam comes up just short in bid to win Thailand Open

Tun Hakim Tun Hasnul Azam came up just short of claiming a victory on his senior debut when he finished runner-up in the Thailand Open in Bangkok today.

The 19-year-old went down fighting 205-213 to South Korea’s Park Geon-ha in the final.

Tun Hakim, who was promoted from the national youth set-up last month, earlier made the top six stepladder finals by coming in third with a six-game total 1,364 pinfalls in the second round.

Geon-ha, last year’s Asian Youth Championships Masters’ gold medallist, claimed the top seeding with 1,473 as compatriot Han Jae-hyeon made it a 1-2 finish after posting 1,381.

By virtue of being the third seed, Tun Hakim received a bye into the semi-final where he took on Jae-hyeon and fourth seed Mika Koivuniemi, a 14-time US PBA Tour winner.
