Malaysia fizzled out in semis of Asian Teams

Malaysia’s challenge in the men’s and women’s competition ended in the semifinals at the Asian Team Squash Championships.

The men found 15-time champions Pakistan just too hot to handle as they lost 2-0 at the Cheongju International Squash Stadium on Saturday.

In a 2-1-3 order of play, Darren Rahul Pragasam couldn’t repeat his heroics in the quarter-finals as he was blown away 8-11, 5-11, 8-11 by Tayyab Aslam.

Team captain Mohd Addeen Idrakie was tasked to save the tie but he couldn’t deliver as he lost 8-11, 8-11, 11-5, 11-13 to Farhan Zaman.

Hong Kong downed Iran 2-0 in the other semi-final.

In the women’s event, the Malaysian side was simply outclassed 2-0 by top seeds Hong Kong.

World No. 19 Joey Chan stamped her authority by whipping Lai Wen Li 11-5, 11-4, 11-4 before world No. 11 Annie Au sealed an easy win by beating Ooi Kah Yan 11-3, 11-3, 11-3.

Hong Kong who are seeking their first title since 2010, take on surprise package South Korea in the final.
