Johor Darul Ta back on track in AFC Cup

Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) revived back their AFC Cup campaign after beating Singapore’s Tampines Rovers 2-1 in their Group H clash at Larkin Stadium here.

Midfielder Muhammad Safawi Rasid gave JDT a flying start in the 12th minute when his shot from 25 meters went straight into Tampines goal for a 1-0 lead on Wednesday.

However, Iranian referee Payam Heidari awarded a penalty to Tampines after Corbin Ong was judged to handle the ball in the box.

Singapore international striker Khairul Amri converted the spot kick to make it 1-1 in the 45th minute.

Midfielder Mohd Afiq Fazail dipping shot almost caught Tampines goalkeeper Muhammad Syazwan Buhari off guard but he quickly recover to punch the ball over the bar in the 72nd minute.

As the clock was ticking down for JDT, Ahmad Hazwan Bakri turned hero for his team when he collected a through pass from Natxo Insa before slotting the ball into the visitor’s net in the 79th minute.
