Najib: I won't stoop to Dr M's level of politics

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said he will not stoop to the level of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who has resorted to insulting the Bugis community.

The Prime Minister did not name the former leader but mentioned a former leader who recently resorted to "scolding the Bugis."

"Now he is scolding the Bugis. The history of Bugis is illustrious, they are warriors, how can he ask me to go back to… I don't ask him to go back to, where is that place?

" I don't want to stoop to his level of politics," Najib said in his speech when closing the Umno social media convention here on Saturday.

Najib said that as Prime Minister for all Malaysians, he prefers to practise politics that does not stoop to crude levels.

"I have to practise politics that has moral values, I prefer to 'hit' indirectly (sindir), we don't hit directly, we don't use brutal or crude methods, cannot."

The Prime Minister hit out at Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown for allegations made against him.

"I did not give money to PAS, that's why PAS has sued Sarawak Report. We wait for the decision, Clare Brown is now panicking, though I can't comment as this is a court case. But this allegation is ridiculous," he added.

The Prime Minister also trained his guns on the Opposition for attacking BR1M when the Selangor Government under its recent budget announced a RM200 aid for 30,000 single mothers.

"Their (Opposition) leaders liken BR1M to dedak (animal feed), then what is the difference between BR1M and what the Selangor Mentri Besar announced?"

"When he announced aid to 30,000 aid to housewives, what is the difference in principle between that and BR1M," Najib asked.
