MACC arrests Johor DOSH assistant director over RM30,000 bribe

JOHOR BARU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained a state Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) senior officer for accepting RM30,000 in bribes.
The 37-year-old department deputy assistant director had allegedly asked for the amount from a project manager of a petroleum engineering company.
Investigations revealed that the suspect had asked and received the amount from the manager as part of an inducement to not take action against the company for installing a grip hoist without getting the department's approval.
The MACC detained the suspect at a hotel here at around 2.40pm on Tuesday (Oct 31) to assist with the investigation.
The team also seized several documents related to the project.
The case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009, which carries a fine of five times the bribery amount or RM10,000 or whichever is higher or jail term not more than 20 years.
Johor MACC director Datuk Azmi Alias confirmed the arrest, saying the suspect would be brought to court later Wednesday to be remanded.
