KUIN on the verge of attaining university status

ALOR SETAR: Kolej Unversiti Insaniah (KUIN) is one step away from gaining full-fledged university status.
The only condition left is to have 20% of its enrolment consisting of international students.
Replying to a question by Md Zuki Yusof (PAS-Kuala Ketil), state education committee chairman Datuk Tajul Urus Mat Zain said KUIN had already fulfilled four of the five conditions laid by the Higher Education Ministry to be registered as a full-fledged university.
It will be known as the Sultan Abdul Halim Mua'adzam Shah Islamic International University when it meets all the criteria.
" KUIN has fulfilled the four other conditions, including the courses which the Malaysian Qualifications Agency had issues with,” said Tajul.
He added that KUIN also managed to obtain a passing rate of 70%, while 80% of its lecturers have Masters qualifications.
"The fourth condition fulfilled was to have 30% of our operations cost used for research and development (R&D)," he said, adding that KUIN was on the right track to achieve the 20% registration of international students," he said at the State Legislative Assembly sitting here on Tuesday.
