I'll continue to fight for a moderate Malaysia, says MCA Youth chief Chong

KUALA LUMPUR: MCA Youth chief Datuk Chong Sin Woon says he will not give up fighting for a moderate and progressive Malaysia.
While the process of achieving it might have raised eyebrows among some senior Barisan Nasional leaders, Chong said he believed the coalition would support the cause.
"I come across as one Youth chief who does not toe the line," he said at the opening of the MCA Youth 53rd annual general meeting (AGM) here Saturday (Nov 4).
Chong said issues that contravened the Federal Constitution in particular must be discussed in a mature manner despite the differing opinions within Barisan.
Chong, who is Deputy Education Minister, also touched on the importance of inclusivity and meritocracy in charting the nation's future.
"The best person should be given the job and our country has a lot of talented people," he said.
On another matter, Chong said he was taken aback by former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who branded MCA a chauvinist party because the party's anthem is in Chinese.
He said it was an irony for the former Barisan chairman to say that now as he had been hearing the MCA song every year for 22 years when he opened the party AGM.
Chong said this showed Dr Mahathir was running short of political model and has to resort to back-stabbing its once long time comrade.
Chong said Dr Mahathir chose to defend DAP, a party that is good at stirring racial sentiments to gain support from the Chinese.
