Hospital: Surgery on Anwar's shoulder successful

PETALING JAYA: Former Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has successfully undergone laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery to his right shoulder.

In a statement on Sunday, Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) consultant Datuk Dr Jeyaindran Sinnadurai said that Anwar was examined by an orthopaedic consultant of his choice prior to the surgery.

"He concurred with the findings and the intended surgical procedure," said Dr Jeyaindran.

To aid Anwar's recovery, no visitors except for his immediate family are allowed.

Anwar, 70, was sentenced to five years' jail for sodomising Mohd Saiful Bukhari, 30, at Desa Damansara condominium in Bukit Damansara on June 26, 2008.

He is currently serving the sentence at the Sungai Buloh prison.
