'Datuk Seri' in Rela assault case to be charged with drug offences on Monday

KUALA LUMPUR: The "Datuk Seri" who was charged with assaulting three Rela personnel is expected to face drug abuse charges on Monday.
Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Shaharuddin Abdullah said Datuk Seri Liow Soon Hee, 29, would be charged under Section 15 (i) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 under which he could be fined not more than RM5,000 or serve a jail term of not more than two years if convicted.
"He will be brought to the magistrate's court on Jalan Duta for the charges to be read," he said.
It is learnt that the businessman, who has a drug offence record, has also been identified as a person of interest in several other cases involving criminal syndicate activities.
He is also being investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission following a claim by Rela platoon leader Ho Hoong Keong that his three injured subordinates – Melvin Cheong Mun Khai, 19, Leong Jiun Jie, 21, and Lee Weng Poh, 27 – had lodged a police report over a RM10,000 "compensation" reportedly offered to them to withdraw the assault report.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim also confirmed that the suspect had tested positive for drugs when he was arrested on Monday.
The man allegedly beat up the three Rela members on duty when they asked for his car, that was blocking a road near a temple in Ampang, to be moved because he felt that they did not show him enough respect.
