Body of first victim of Weld Quay home fire released

GEORGE TOWN: The body of the first of four victims, who perished in a fire that broke out at the house of Tanjung MCA Youth chief Lim Swee Bok, has been released.
The body of Lim's mother Lau Sai Poh, 62, was released by the Penang Hospital at 4.43pm on Wednesday (Nov 15) .
Lim and Penang MCA chairman Datuk Tan Teik Cheng along with other Penang MCA committee members arrived at the hospital's mortuary at around 3.30pm.
The hearse carrying Lau's body then headed to the wake held at Sri Saujana flats on Macallum Street Ghaut.
"We are contacting the Chinese embassy in Malaysia for the documents to prove the wife's nationality before the hospital can release the body.
"Other than that, there is no other issue," Chong told the press outside the mortuary.
Chong added that the party will bear the cost of the funeral expenses.
At 5.28pm, the body of another family member, believed to be one of the children was seen being transported out of the mortuary.
As of 5.30pm, the other two bodies are still at the hospital mortuary.
The four family members were killed when a fire broke out at their house in Pintasan Cecil 5 in Weld Quay early Wednesday (Nov 15).
A Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson said 20 firemen from the Lebuh Pantai and Jalan Perak stations rushed to the scene after receiving a call at 6.08am. They managed to put out the fire at about 7.10am.
Those who died were Lim's mother, his wife, son Yin Chun, 10, and nine-year-old daughter Jia Ying.
It was a second blow in recent times for Lim after his father passed away at age 72 on Nov 5.
