Two pedestrians die in road accidents in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: Two pedestrians were killed in separate accidents here Sunday.
In the first incident, a female pedestrian died after she was hit by a five-tonne lorry in Tuaran at about 4.50am.
According to the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department, a van with nine people inside had swerved and overturned when it tried to avoid the woman
Khatizah Rahaban said the lorry, which was behind the van could not stop in time and crashed into the woman.
“The eight passengers in the van and lorry driver escaped unscathed,” she added.
Meanwhile, acting Kota Kinabalu police chief Supt George Rakman said that it is believed the woman was killed after she jumped out onto the open road.
He added that the woman was said to have been standing by a road divider at about 4.50am when she suddenly jumped in front of oncoming vehicles.
"She was said to have jumped out, spread her arms and waited," said Supt George in a statement on Sunday.
n the other incident, a motorcyclist in his 20s was killed following a collision with a car along the Pomotodon Road in Tambunan some 70km from here.
According to Sabah Fire and Rescue Department division operations chief Khatizah Rahaban, the motorcyclist in his 20s died on the spot due to severe injuries
Khatizah said that bodies of both victims have been sent to the hospital for post-mortems.
