Srikanth set to reach world No. 2 after lifting French Open title

PETALING JAYA: Indian shuttler K. Srikanth is set to reach his career-best No. 2 ranking in the world.
On Sunday, the world No. 4 bagged the French Open for his fourth Superseries victory of the season after outclassing Japan’s Kenta Nishimoto 21-14, 21-13 in 34 minutes at the Pierre de Coubertin Stadium in Paris.
It was Srikanth’s second title in as many weeks, having also captured the Denmark Open.
The feat also made him the fourth man – after China’s Lin Dan and Chen Long and Malaysian Lee Chong Wei – to bag four men’s singles titles in a season since the Superseries inception in 2007.
The 24-year-old’s previous best ranking was No. 3 in August 2015.
The World Badminton Federation (WBF) will release their new rankings list on Thursday.
