Jacky Cheung and Jay Chou set to rock KL

KUALA LUMPUR: Two of the biggest names in Asian entertainment are set to take Kuala Lumpur by storm when they perform at their sellout shows in January.
Hong Kong’s Jacky Cheung will be entertaining fans on Jan 26 and 27, and Taiwanese pop sensation Jay Chou on Jan 27.
News that the organiser of Cheung’s concert, Star Planet, may hold an additional show is sure to bring a smile to fans who reportedly cried openly last week when they failed to get tickets.
In response to rumours of the third show, a spokesperson from Star Planet said: “We are working on the final details and fans can expect news within this week.”
In August, more than 20,000 tickets to Chou’s concert at Stadium Merdeka here were sold in a day.
“As this is Part 2 of The Invincible Jay Chou Concert Tour, we were confident that fans would return to watch this show,” said a spokesperson from Bestin Entertainment, which is bringing in the 38-year-old superstar.
“Fans are able to relate to Jay Chou’s songs and are excited to see him perform live again.”
Chou’s last concert here was also held at Stadium Merdeka in August last year.
Cheung, 56, one of Hong Kong entertainment’s four Heavenly Kings, showed that he was still the “God of Songs” when tickets to his concerts at Axiata Arena Bukit Jalil were snapped up within 24 hours last weekend. The arena can seat 16,000 people at any one time.
Fans queued up at the Quill City Mall as early as Thursday to ensure that they got their hands on the tickets.
Universal Music head of events and new business Miselyn Len has a theory for the overwhelming response: “Cheung’s last performance in Malaysia was about six years. People don’t know how long it’ll be before he sings here again.”
She added that one of the highlights of the concert would be a special four-sided stage, designed by the singer himself.
Despite starting his showbiz career more than 30 years ago, Len said the Cantopop star was very much relevant today.
“His music is loved by all ages. His 2014 album Wake Up Dreaming, for example, was certified gold in Malaysia, selling over 5,000 copies.”
This is not the first time two mega- stars will be performing on the same night in Malaysia.
On Nov 28, 2009, Sandy Lam performed at the Putra Indoor Stadium in Bukit Jalil (now Axiata Arena) while Alan Tam staged a show with Hacken Lee at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium.
