ESL One Genting Dota 2 tournament returns for second year running

Malaysia will once again play host to the ESL One Genting Dota 2 tournament next year, at the Arena of Stars, Resorts World Genting from Jan 26 to 28.
Happening for the second year in the row, the tournament is part of the ESL One series organised by ESL, the German-based eSports organisation.
The 2018 event offers a total prize pool of US$400,000 (RM1.7mil).
Winning teams from the ESL One Genting Dota 2 tournament will also earn 400 qualifying points to go on to Dota 2’s largest tournament, The International, held annually in Seattle, United States.
The group stages of the tournament will be played in the best of five format, while the quarterfinal and semifinal stages will be played in the best of three single elimination format.
ESL One Genting will also be the first “Minor” tournament to be organised in Malaysia under the revamped tournament format adopted by Valve, the developer of the game, in the new Dota 2 calendar year.
Dota 2 tournaments with minimum prize pools of US$300,000 (RM1.3mil), such as the ESL One Genting will be categorised as Minor, while those with minimum prize pools of US$1mil (RM4.2mil) will be categorised as Major.
Qualifying points will be awarded to winning teams, runners up and the third and fourth placed teams.
Earlier this year, Digital Chaos from United States beat seven other top teams to clinch the title at the Arena of Stars, bagging US$125,000 (RM527,000) out of the total US$250,000 (RM1.05mil) prize pool offered.
According to Resorts World Genting, the tickets will go on sale on Oct 19, at 2pm. The ticket prices start from RM180 for free seating and go all the way up to RM500, which also comes with exclusive goodie bags and access to VIP signing sessions..
