Dr Kassim Ahmad laid to rest

KULIM: Social activist Dr Kassim Ahmad has been laid to rest at the Masjid Kilang Lama cemetery here.
The casket carrying the 84-year-old's remains were buried after the maghrib prayers around 7.30pm.
Speaking to media after sprinkling flower petals and pouring rose water on the burial plot, Dr Kassim's youngest child Ahmad Shauqi said the loss came at a tragic and unexpected time.
"He is in a better place, and we will continue his cause and fight for justice," he said, adding he is thankful to the mosque committee for their help and cooperation with the funeral.
"I have lost a good old friend while society has lost an important figure who has contributed a lot," he said.
Dr Kassim had fallen into a coma at around 4am on Monday after complaining of difficulty breathing.
He passed away at 10am at the Kulim Hospital due to lung problems.
His body was brought to the mosque from the mortuary at around 4.30pm before burial.
