Court sets Nov 20 to hear Govt bid to strike out Anwar's suit

KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court here has fixed Nov 20 to hear an application by the Government to strike out Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's suit to invalidate his Sodomy II conviction.
The former opposition leader claimed that he was convicted and sent to jail based on perjured evidence given by his accuser and former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, 31.
Speaking to reporters, Senior Federal Counsel Nadia Hanim Mohd Tajuddin told reporters that High Court deputy registrar Rumaizah Baharom had fixed the case to be heard before High Court Judge Nik Hazmat Nik Mohamad.
Lawyer Shahid Adli Kamarudin acted for Anwar during the case management on Friday.
In Anwar's suit filed on April 17, he claimed the fraud had caused his conviction for sodomy at the Court of Appeal when the prosecution appealed against his acquittal by the High Court.
He sought to set aside the Court of Appeal's decision on March 7, 2014 and Federal Court's decision on Feb 10, 2015.
The Federal Court had upheld Anwar's conviction and five-year jail term for sodomising his former aide Saiful at Desa Damansara Condominium in Bukit Damansara on June 26, 2008.
