Two teens killed in motorcycle-lorry crash after attending Malaysia Day event

SANDAKAN: Two friends were killed when their motorcycle collided with a 10-tonne lorry along the Sandakan–Lahad Datu road here on Sunday.
Sandakan police chief Asst Comm Mohd Azhar Hamin said the victims were Mohd Noor Yusof, 19, of Taman Cahaya and pillion rider Muhammad Luqman Samsul, 16, of Kampung Kenangan Manis from Labuk.
In the 11.40am mishap, both victims were believed to be returning to Sandakan from Kinabatangan after attending the Malaysia Day activities there.
It is learnt that the motorcyclist had swerved into the opposite lane and collided with the oncoming lorry.
The lorry driver, who was unhurt, had abandoned the vehicle and fled from the scene.
ACP Mohd Azhar said representatives of the lorry company had turned up at the district police headquarters to help with investigation into the accident.
"We are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving causing death," he added.
The bodies have been sent to the Duchess of Kent Hospital for post-mortem.
