Sin Chew wins coveted award at WCIT

TAIPEI: Sin Chew Media Corporation Berhad was among the Malaysian winners at the World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT) 2017 in Taipei, Taiwan.
The Malaysian delegation bagged seven awards, including the Outstanding User Organisation Award which was won by Sin Chew Media Corporation Berhad, at the awards held between Sept 10 and 13.
It was the second time Taiwan had hosted the WCIT, touted as the "Olympics" of the ICT industry, after a lapse of 17 years.
The event saw the participation of more than 3,700 IT industrial leaders from over 80 countries and territories.
Malaysia won three World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA) awards and four Asian-Oceanian Computing Industry Organisation (ASOCIO) awards during the congress.
Besides Sin Chew Media Corporation, which won ASOCIO's Outstanding User Organisation Award, the other Malaysian winners of the ASOCIO awards were IPAY88, Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation Sdn Bhd (MDEC) and Eduspec Holdings Berhad.
The Malaysian winners of the WITSA awards were Bestinet, MDEC eUsahawan and SEMMEL.
Among the VIPs present at the event were Taiwan's Premier William Lai and Economic Minister Shen Jong-chin, WITSA chairman Yvonne Chiu, ASICIO chairman David Wong, National ICT Association of Malaysia (Pikom) chairman Chin Chee Seong, MCIL Multimedia Sdn Bhd chief executive officer-cum-Sin Chew Media Corporation General Manager for IT Keu Tien Siong, and Sin Chew Media Corporation Deputy General Manager for IT Loke Chee Soon.
Keu told Sin Chew Daily it was very encouraging for Sin Chew Media Corporation to be presented the ASOCIO Outstanding User Organisation Award, and that the company was the only Malaysian organisation which won in this category.
"Sin Chew Media Corporation has taken proactive initiatives in corporate transformation in recent years, including broader adoption of information technology.
"This explains why we have been able to clinch the award among so many competitors," he said.
Keu said the company had put in a lot of effort to help promote the development of the IT industry in Malaysia over the past two years, and had organised countless forums and talks, including the Logon e-commerce forum and web security forum, among others.
Keu said Sin Chew Media Corporation had also worked very closely with IT-related organisations in the country, including Pikom.
