Missing researcher found safe in Sabah forest reserve

KOTA KINABALU: A Sabah Forestry Department researcher has been found safe after being missing for five days in the Deramakot Forest Reserve off Kinabatangan.
M.A. Tajuddin Mustapha was found by rescuers just before Sunday noon, said Sabah Forestry Department director Datuk Sam Mannan.
He said Tajuddin was tired and weak when he was found.
“We will be sending him to the Duchess of Kent Hospital for medical examination before asking for more details,” he said.
He said they hope to find out exactly what happened and how Tajuddin could have lost his way in the forest.
Tajuddin, a research assistant who works on inventory and plant identification as well as field support, was part of a five-member team who entered the 55,507ha forest reserve to carry out an inventory of trees on Aug 29.
The group had finished for the day and were walking out to the road that was just 10 minutes away when Tajuddin told his colleagues to go ahead as he wanted to look for some herbs.
His colleagues, however, became worried when Tajuddin did not emerge from the forest after some time and sounded the alarm.
