Met Dept: Penang not under threat of tsunami

PETALING JAYA: No, a giant wave of destruction is not on its way to devastate Penang.
The Meteorological Department debunked a viral message which claimed that a tsunami was heading towards Penang, saying that no such warning has been issued.
"The viral message about the tsunami hitting Penang at around 11pm to 1am is not true. The Malaysian Meteorological Department did not issue such a warning," said its deputy director-general Dr Mohd Rosaidi Che Abas in a text message to The Star.
The viral message quoted the National Disaster Management Agency, saying that a tsunami would hit Penang at around 11pm to 1am, without mentioning any specific date.
The message warned residents living in Batu Ferringhi area, Tanjung Bungah, Tanjung Tokong and Gurney Drive about the "latest information" and urged people to share the message with family and friends.
