Liow: Fresh faces will make up more than 50% of MCA's candidates

KUALA LUMPUR: New faces will make up more than half of MCA's candidate list in the next general election, said Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.
The party president said this after opening the Federal Territories MCA 2017 convention in Wangsa Maju on Sunday.
"We are very happy to see a lot of new faces, the momentum and the feel-good factor is there, and the people are very happy with the services of the candidates," he said.
The Federal Territories MCA 2017 convention was attended by 400 delegates from its division in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan.
Asked to elaborate on the list, Liow said that it was currently with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and would be revealed by him.
He added that MCA's candidates were already working the ground in the constituencies they would be contesting.
Liow also said that Kuala Lumpur voters should give their support for MCA and Barisan Nasional, as the ruling coalition was the party that had developed the city.
"I am calling on the Federal Territories and Kuala Lumpur to support MCA and Barisan, as Kuala Lumpur is transforming into Greater Kuala Lumpur, and becoming the economic driver for Malaysia," he added.
Liow also said the party would follow the previously agreed seat quota amongst all Barisan component parties.
"If there are any changes, we will discuss this privately as we have achieved a consensus. Any seat allocation issues will be discussed at the highest level," he added.
In his opening speech, Federal Territories MCA Liaison Committee Chairman Datuk Yew Teong Look announced that FT MCA would contest all five parliamentary seats it contested in the last general election and expressed hope that the issue of the Wangsa Maju parliamentary seat would be quickly resolved.
Economic issues affecting voter sentiment was also raised, as Yew said opinion polls indicated that the cost of living, especially for urban areas has resulted in more and more people moving away from the city.
