Indonesian skipper held, gas cylinders worth RM25,000 seized

KOTA KINABALU: An Indonesian skipper was arrested while trying to smuggle gas cylinders out of the country via waters off Tawau on Friday.
The 20-year-old suspect was arrested after he failed to produce any travel documents to marine officials who had intercepted his boat near Sg. Melayu at about 5.30pm.
Tawau Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) district director Captain Romli Mustafa said further inspection on the boat also led to the discovery of 50 cylinders of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
"These items are believed to be smuggled into Sg Nyamuk," he said in a statement here Saturday.
He said that the boat and gas cylinders valued at about RM25,000 have been seized while the man has been detained.
"We will continue our sea patrols to prevent such crime," Romli added.
