IGP: Religious school fire fatalities classified as sudden death for now

KUALA LUMPUR: The tragic deaths at the Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah tahfiz school have been classified as sudden death, says Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun (pic).
"It is still classified as sudden death unless new evidence or leads are uncovered by our forensic team," said the Inspector-General of Police.
"We will investigate," he told a press conference after witnessing the handing over of duties ceremony for three Bukit Aman department directors.
Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff was appointed as the Bukit Aman Special Branch department director. He succeeded Mohamad Fuzi, who is now the IGP.
Comm Datuk Seri Mohmad Salleh took over from Comm Mohd Mokhtar as Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director while Comm Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd took over as CID director from Comm Mohmad.
Mohamad Fuzi said all individuals involved in the tragedy, including survivors and the school's principal, would be investigated.
"It is still too early to conclude anything about the case.
"We are still waiting for the report from the Fire and Rescue Department as well," he said.
He also denied there was a gag order imposed on those involved, including the school principal.
