IGP: Parents of tahfiz arson suspects will not be charged

KOTA BARU: The parents of the tahfiz arson suspects will not be charged in court as speculated in social media, said Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun.
The Inspector-General of Police said the parents had nothing to do with the case which was being investigated as a juvenile offence.
"We call upon all parties - including the media - to stop making unwarranted speculations. We will forward our recommendation to the prosecutors based on the findings of our investigations," he said on Wednesday.
Mohamad Fuzi said this after opening the police level Innovation Day celebration at Universiti Malaysia Kelantan's Kota Baru campus.
Also present were Bukit Aman CID director Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd, Kelantan police chief Datuk Hasanuddin Hassan and UMK vice chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mortaza Mohamed.
On the investigation, Mohamad Fuzi said the police needed more time to complete the investigation papers as they have yet to record statements of the injured victims.
"We are also awaiting reports from Tenaga Nasional Bhd, the Fire and Rescue Services Department, the Chemistry Department and the forensic unit. We will complete investigations as fast as we can as this has become a high profile case," he said.
On internal investigations into leaked information, Mohamad Fuzi said they have recorded statements from the officers and staff implicated.
"We have seized their mobile phones," he added.
