Calm and collected MPSJ officer in viral video gets award

SUBANG JAYA: “Keep calm” – is not just a pin badge slogan as far as Norsafuan Nordin (pic) is concerned.
The Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) enforcement officer, lives those word as was evident when confronted by a woman whose car he had clamped for illegal parking in Puchong last week.
Dangerously waving a steel steering lock at him and staring angrily at him, the screaming woman looked to be on the verge of hitting Norsafuan, in video footage.
But Norsafuan remained steady.
The video clip went viral on social media with netizens applauding Norsafuan’s professionalism.
For his patience and work ethics, Norsafuan was honoured by Selangor Legislative Assembly Speaker Hannah Yeoh, Kinrara assemblyman Ng Sze Han and MPSJ acting president Mohd Zulkarnain Che Ali who presented him with certificates of appreciation at the council headquarters yesterday.
Interviewed by the press later, the 31-year-old officer who has worked with the council for just over a decade, played down his part in the incident.
“It was just another day at work for me. As an enforcement officer, I am faced with such situations on a daily basis. So we need a high level of tolerance ... the only difference is that this one went viral,” he said.
Norsafuan, who was with the Subang Jaya clamping unit before his recent transfer to the unit in Puchong, said he was grateful that no one got hurt.
“It was not the most extreme reaction, I’ve seen worse during other raids,” he said, adding that he has no ill feelings towards the woman.
Mohd Zulkarnain said the council was proud of Norsafuan.
“He was exemplary,” he said. “We have 286 enforcement officers who are trained to face those who abuse them,” he added. The council chief said the incident happened at about 1pm at Bandar Puteri 1/4 last Wednesday.
It was reported that the woman has been questioned by police.
Yeoh, who is the Subang Jaya assemblywoman, said: “This certificate is not to highlight an individual but the entire enforcement unit. We want to show our appreciation to the officers.”
