PETALING JAYA: National shuttlers Vivian Hoo-Woon Khe Wei battled their way to win the New Zealand Open title at the North Shore Events Centre in Auckland.
On Sunday, the top seeds stayed on court for one hour and 38 minutes to beat the gutsy Ayako Sakuramoto-Yukiko Takahata of Japan 18-21, 21-16, 21-19 in the women's doubles final.
It's the first Open title for Vivian-Khe Wei since winning the 2011 Indonesian Open Grand Prix Gold in Jakarta.
Said Vivian: "It feels good to taste success again in an Open tournament after so long. It'll surely put us on the right track for the Kuala Lumpur SEA Games (from Aug 19-30)."
Men's singles: Wang Tzu-wei (Tpe) bt Lee Cheuk Yiu (Hkg) 11-21, 21-15, 22-20.
Women's doubles: Vivian Hoo-Woon Khe Wei (Mas) bt Ayako Sakuramoto-Yukiko Takahata (Jpn) 18-21, 21-16, 21-19.
Mixed doubles: Ronald Ronald-Annisa Saufika (Ina) bt Sawan Serasinghe-Setyana Mapasa (Aus) 21-19, 21-14.
