Shuttlers in two badminton finals at New Zealand Open

PETALING JAYA: Malaysian shuttlers are on track to win two titles in the New Zealand Open at the North Shore Events Centre in Auckland.
On Saturday, top women pair Vivian Hoo-Woon Khe Wei put up a gallant fight to beat Greysia Polii-Apriyani Rahayu of Indonesia 21-18, 13-21, 21-13 in a pulsating 81-minute match to enter the final.
They will take on Ayako Sakuramoto-Yukiko Takahata of Japan. Both are hoping to win their first title this season.
There was also a double joy for Malaysia when second seeds Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi defeated He Jiting-Tan Qiang of China 21-19, 21-11 to reach the men’s doubles final.
They will face top seeds Chen Hung-ling-Wang Chi-lin of Taiwan on Sunday.

Men’s doubles: Chen Hung-ling-Wang Chi-lin (Tpe) bt Kenas Adi Haryanto-Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani (Ina) 21-13, 21-15; Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi-He Jiting-Tan Qiang (Chn) 21-19, 21-11.
Women’s singles: Ratchanok Intanon (Tha) bt Hanna Ramadini (Ina) 21-13, 21-17; Saena Kawakami (Jpn) bt Fitriani Fitriani (Ina) 21-12, 17-21, 21-17.
Women’s doubles: Vivian Hoo-Woon Khe Wei (Mas) bt Greysia Polii-Apriyani Rahayu (Ina) 21-18, 13-21, 21-13; Ayako Sakuramoto-Yukiko Takahata (Jpn) bt Liu Xuanxuan-Xia Yuting (Chn) 23-21, 21-13.
Mixed doubles: Sawan Serasinghe-Setyana Mapasa (Aus) bt Zhou Haodong-Xu Ya (Chn) 25-23, 21-18; Ronald Ronald-Annisa Saufika (Ina) bt Wang Chi-lin-Wendy Chen Hsuan-yu (Tpe) 21-9, 19-21, 21-6.
