SEA Games: 14-year-old Aaliyah wins gold in women’s jump

PUTRAJAYA: Teenage water skier Aaliyah Yoong Hanifah (pic) finally got the better of her nemesis Rossi Amir to win the gold medal in the women's jump event at the SEA Games on Tuesday.
The 14-year-old had set a new national record with a jump of 32.8m in the preliminary rounds on Monday.
However, she still needed to beat defending champion Rossi of Indonesia, who had leapt 30.8m in the final at the Water Sports Complex here.
Aaliyah came close in her first jump, with a leap of 30.7m.
She made sure she nailed the gold in her second jump, soaring to a distance of 32.6m.
It was her second medal of the day, having bagged silver in the women's slalom behind Singapore's Sasha Christian.
Aaliyah also clinched the women's tricks gold in style, scoring a total of 5,880, while Singapore's Sabelle Kee took silver with 3,450.This is her third gold of the Games.
Aaliyah won the women's overall gold medal on Saturday.
