RM207,898 bid for ‘AKU 1’ plate

IPOH: The “AKU” vehicle registration number plate series is the most popular in Perak, receiving more than 3,000 tender applications from the public.
Perak Road Transport Department (JPJ) director Mohd Zawawi Zakaria said it received some 3,315 applications, which is about five or six times more than usual.
“We normally get between 500 and 600 applications,” he said.
But out of all the applications for the AKU plate, only 3,076 were accepted.
“The rest were rejected due to incomplete details or non-payment,” he told a press conference yesterday.
He added that the series fetched RM3.5mil in revenue.
Mohd Zawawi said the most popular plates were AKU 8055 which reads like Aku Boss (I am boss), as well as AKU 805 and AKU 1305 (Aku Bos).
“There were 49 bids for AKU 1305, with the highest being RM20,000.
“AKU 8055 had 27 bids with the highest being RM74,000 while AKU 805 received 18 bids and the highest was RM28,800,” he said.
He said the highest bid received in the series was for AKU 1 (I am first), RM207,898.
Bidding for the AKU series began early last month and ended on July 18.
On a separate matter, Mohd Zawawi said Perak JPJ would be re-activating its Customer Day event, to be held on the last week of each month.
He said the event, which was last held in February, would take place simultaneously at its branch offices and headquarters here, Seri Manjung, Taiping, Teluk Intan and the Urban Transformation Centre.
At the event, its personnel will be on hand to provide advice and look into any grouses brought up by the public.
Mohd Zawawi said discounts on summonses would be offered to those who settle them during the event.
“A 50% discount will be given to those who come to the event at our headquarters and it is 30% off at our branches,” he said.
However, the discounts are not applicable to summonses issued under the Automated Enforcement System; these are already at a flat rate of RM150, he added.
