Retired teacher charged with supporting IS

KUALA LUMPUR: A retired teacher was charged in a Sessions Court here with two counts of giving support and possessing items related to the Islamic State (IS) in his Facebook account early this month.
Abu Hasan Chan Abdullah was accused under Section 130J(1)(a) of the Penal Code with providing support to IS through a Facebook account under the name of Abu Hasan Chan.
The 63-year-old was also charged under Section 130JB(1)(a) of the Penal Code with possessing items related to the militant group in his Facebook account
He allegedly committed the offence at the Counter Terrorism Division at Bukit Aman Police Headquarters, Level 24, Menara 2, Bukit Aman here at 10am on Aug 1.
No plea was recorded and no bail was offered as it is under the High Court's jurisdiction.
Abu Hasan, who was unrepresented, was brought to the courtroom at about 11.30am accompanied by several policemen.
Deputy public prosecutor Amira Sariaty Zainal asked for the next mention date pending a report from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission.
Judge Syed Faisal Syed Amir then fixed Nov 10 for mention.
