Rakyat are smart enough to judge Dr Mahathir's actions and intention to topple PM - Hishammuddin

TANJUNG MALIM: The people are intelligent enough to evaluate Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad plans to ousts Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, his deputy Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, and the rest of Malaysians were already familiar with Dr Mahathir’s character throughout his 22-year reign as prime minister.
“I have no doubt that the former prime minister (Dr Mahathir) had the intention to topple Najib.
“The three of us (Najib, Zahid and Hishammuddin) have enough experience with his games and we also know how politics are played by outsiders,” Hishammuddin told reporters after opening the Tanjung Malim Umno division meeting today.
He also expressed disappointment concerning overtures by Dr Mahathir to pit Najib and Zahid against each other.
“I knew this (pitting Najib and Zahid) is going to happen. As his (Dr Mahathir’s) protege, what he is doing now is very disappointing. As the leader who had 22 years of experience in the country's administration, the rakyat are smart enough to judge for themselves (on his actions).
“I hope in future he will not try to destroy the relationship I have with our Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Najib,” Hishammuddin said.
Zahid was reported as saying that he was willing to swear on the Quran to deny that he was involved in a plot to topple Najib in 2015.
He said he also was ready to be investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Agency (MACC) on the alleged wealth he had accumulated as claimed by Dr Mahathir. This, he said, was to clear his name as he did not hold government position and was a businessman at that time.
Zahid had also asked the person who had made claims of his wealth to be investigated as well, a reference to Dr Mahathir who had made the allegations.
In Padang Rengas, Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Aziz said MACC should also investigate the assets owned by Dr Mahathir his family.
“The complainant should also be willing to be investigated, as he (Zahid) became rich when he was a businessman. What is wrong with that?” he told reporters when met after opening Padang Rengas Umno division delegates meeting.
He said Dr Mahathir had also yet to answer questions on funds collected during his tenure including those used for general elections.
