Police arrest 62-year-old who hit wife with chair and wooden rod

KUALA TERENGGANU: A 62-year-old man was arrested for assaulting his wife at a food stall near a flat in Kuala Ibai, here, on Saturday.
A police source said the 44-year-old victim was attending to customers at the stall when her husband rushed in and started to hit her with a chair and a wooden rod.
He said the 7.15pm incident was believed to have been the result of a personal misunderstanding between husband and wife.
“A relative alerted the incident to the victim’s son, who later rushed to her aid,” he said, adding that the man fled the scene when the son, who is believed to be from a previous marriage, arrived at the stall.
The source said the 23-year-old son lodged a report at the district police headquarters soon after sending his mother to the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital for treatment.
“The victim suffered bruises on her body and injuries on her arms and fingers in the incident,” he said.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Idris Abdul Rafar said the case was being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing hurt.
