PKR's Selayang MP quits party's political bureau

PETALING JAYA: A PKR lawmaker has resigned from the party's political bureau, citing PKR’s cooperation with PAS as the reason.
Selayang MP William Leong (pic), however, said he will remain a PKR member.
"Yes, I have sent in my letter of resignation as a member of the political bureau. (But) I am not leaving the party," he said when contacted Wednesday.
Leong said PKR should concentrate on facing off against the Islamist party in the upcoming general election instead.
"I believe that three-cornered fights with PAS are inevitable.
"The party should concentrate and prepare for this because PAS has made it clear they are working with Umno and the ideological differences are too wide to bridge," he said.
PAS officially cut political ties with PKR following a decision made at its party general assembly in April.
However, PAS is still part of the Selangor state government, which is led by PKR.
Despite PAS' decision to cut ties, PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said she was open to working with PAS in the 14th general election.
This has caused uneasiness among several leaders within PKR and its new ally, Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah), which is a PAS breakaway party.
PKR and Amanah are members of the Opposition pact Pakatan Harapan together with DAP and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia.
