Merdeka baby born to Johor couple

JOHOR BARU: Nur Nabihah Sabahul Khair and Mohd Ifftitah Putera Hamzah were overjoyed when they welcomed their second child on Malaysia's 60th National Day.
Hailing from Felda Air Tawar, Kota Tinggi, they were not expecting to receive their second son on the special day as their due date was supposed to be Sept 7.
“It is truly a blessing to be adding a new family member on such a significant day for all Malaysians,” said the 24-year-old housewife to reporters when met on Thursday.
Nur Nabihah said she was admitted at the KPJ Puteri Specialist Hospital after suffering labour pains the night before.
“At 8.50am, I delivered a 2.8kg baby boy and we are elated to call my son Anak Merdeka,” she said, adding that her first son is now three years old.
Nur Nabihah’s 53-year-old mother, Norhana Md Lizat said she hoped her grandson would grow into a good and patriotic man.
“It is the first Anak Merdeka in the family and we couldn’t be happier that he gave us such a delightful early surprise,” she added.
The hospital’s operations manager Mohamad Faizal Mohamed presented hampers to the parents in the spirit of Merdeka.
“We would like to congratulate Nur Nabihah and husband and we hope the baby will grow up healthy and happy,” he said.
Johor Health, Environment, Education and Information Committee chairman Datuk Ayub Rahmat confirmed that 34 boys and 29 girls were born state-wide as of noon on Aug 31.
