Man arrested with RM9,000 worth of drugs, claims he was funding medical expenses

KUCHING: The end does not justify the means.
This was the case of a 40-year-old man, who was arrested with more than RM9,000 worth of drugs in Leboh Sekama here at 12.30pm today.
The man claimed he was suffering from kidney disease and was left with no other choice but to distribute drugs to fund his medical expenses.
Police was unable to perform a urine test on the suspect as he had difficulties doing so due to a health condition.
State Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department chief Superintendent Sahar Abd Latif said preliminary investigations showed the suspect had been operating in the city for almost a year.
"During the raid on his double-story house, the raiding party found several plastic bags containing dried leaves, 29 colourful pills and 55 cigarettes.
"We believed the dried leaves weighing about 108 gram is cannabis and the pellets are ecstasy pills with an estimated value of RM9,520.
"We also believe the cigarettes seized during the raid contain ganja," he said when contacted.
Sahar said his men were looking for another man in Matang near here, who had supplied the drugs to the suspect.
He also said police were in the midst of obtaining a medical report on the suspect to facilitate investigations into the case.
The case is being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for trafficking.
