Drug runner faces the gallows for RM1,000 fee

ALOR SETAR: An attempt by a man to smuggle 75.5kg of ganja into the country was foiled when he was stopped at a roadblock a few kilometres after the Bukit Kayu Hitam checkpoint.
Kedah police chief Comm Datuk Asri Yusoff said they found 74 slabs of ganja hidden in a special compartment (see pic) between the rear passenger seats and the boot of the car at about 10.15pm on Monday.
“The suspect is a 30-year-old lorry driver from Sungai Petani. His urine test returned negative.
“The ganja is worth RM150,000 in the black market,” he said at a press conference yesterday.
Comm Asri said the suspect has been remanded for seven days until Aug 28.
“Based on our investigation, this was the second time the man had smuggled ganja, believed to be from Danok, southern Thailand.
“The smuggler said that he was paid RM1,000 for each trip and the consignment was meant for the Penang market,” Comm Asri said.
