Driver killed after car plunges into sea at Tanjung Lipat

KOTA KINABALU: A self-employed man was killed when the car he was driving veered off the road and plunged into the sea at Tanjung Lipat near here on Thursday.
The victim, identified as Hang Chong Chen, 35, was travelling alone when the mishap occurred at about 6.18am.
Kota Kinabalu police chief Asst Comm M Chandra said that Hang was heading from Kota Kinabalu towards Likas when he lost control of the vehicle.
He said the car went off the road and plunged into about 3m-deep water.
Chandra said police are also trying to ascertain whether Hang was under the influence of alcohol when the accident happened.
Several fatal accidents have occurred along that particular stretch of the coastal road.
In April, two University Malaysia Sabah (UMS) students – Mohd Haidil Amran, 23, from Kunak and Nur Azlina Tan Lian Chew, 22, from Tawau were killed when their car smashed into a tree.
It took firemen about an hour to extricate their bodies from the mangled wreckage.
