Awal Muharram to be observed on Sept 22

PETALING JAYA: Awal Muharram will be observed on Sept 22 this year.
The Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) confirmed on Tuesday that there were no changes to the statement issued earlier this year.
In the statement, its director-general Tan Sri Othman Mustapha said the change was made after a technical error was identified by the Jakim Panel of Astronomy Experts when it was rechecking the data for the month of Zulhijjah 1438H earlier this year.
The public holiday was moved from Thursday Sept 21 to Friday Sept 22 due to this.
"It is informed that the date for 1 Muharram 1439H has changed in the calendar from Sept 21 to Sept 22, 2017," he said.
The 2017 Federal holidays calendar has also been changed accordingly.
