DUNGUN: A 25-year-old mother and her seven months old baby were killed when the car they were travelling in slammed into a divider and an electric post near Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan Kuala Abang, here, today.
The deceased, identified as Nurbani Fartini Ahmad Farnizar, suffered serious head and body injuries and died instantly at the site of the crash at Km 65 of Jalan Kuala Terengganu-Kuantan at 1.40 pm.
Meanwhile her daughter Nur Fauzana Mohd Nazri, succumbed to her injuries at the Dungun Hospital soon after the incident.
District police chief Superintendent Ahmad Zailani Yaacub said both victims were in the front passenger seat of a Honda Accord driven by Fartini’s husband Mohd Nazrin Nizam, 25.
It was learnt that the couple and their daughter were on their way towards Dungun from Kuala Terengganu, when Nazrin, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the divider and the electric pole.
The impact of the crash resulted in the car turning turtle and the mother and child were flung out of the car, several metres away.
Zailani said Nazrin from Pulau Serai here, escaped with light injuries.
“The remains of Fartini and Nur Fauzana were sent to the Dungun Hospital forensic unit for post-mortem,” he said.
“The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road and Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving and causing death,” he added.
