Two-lorry crash on NSE kills Perak couple

SIMPANG AMPAT: Two people were killed in a two-lorry collision on the North-South Expressway (NSE) here early this morning.
The accident occurred at 1.10am when a lorry rear-ended a trailer lorry at Km156.4 (southbound) of the NSE.
The deceased, who were the driver and passenger of the smaller lorry, have been identified as married couple Teoh Beng Koon, 61 and Low Kuan Tai, 58, from Perak.
They were both pinned to their seats by the collision, while the trailer lorry driver escaped unhurt.
"We believe that the driver, Beng Koon, was sleepy when he drove his lorry and eventually hit the back of the trailer," Seberang Perai Selatan police chief Superint-endent Shafee Abdul Samad said in a statemen¬t.
Both bodies were sent to the Sungai Bakap Hospital for post mortems.
The case is being investigated under Sec¬tion 41(1) of the Road Transport Act for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
