More than 1,000 sign up online to join Iskandar Safe City Ride

JOHOR BARU: More than 1,000 people have signed up for the Iskandar Safe City Ride scheduled to take place on Aug 5.
Organised by UEM Sunrise Bhd and the Johor police, the cycling event were also supported by Puteri Harbour, S.O.R. Systems Sdn Bhd and the Happy-Riders Connect group of cycling activists.
The event are divided into family ride category that will take on a 6km route, and Power ride category that covers a 39km route around Iskandar Puteri.
Happy-Riders Connect founder Stephen Ngu said about 160 of the 1,070 participants who have signed up for the event were from the police force.
"There's a reason why there are less and less complaints from the community in Johor about the police as the community is now closer to the police force thanks to activities such as cycling.
"I can proudly call many policemen my friends as I meet them through this sport.
"The community policing mindset is a success and the Johor police have been proactive in constantly engaging with the community too," said Ngu.
Johor police chief Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd is expected to attend the Iskandar Safe City Ride programme.
A flag off ceremony is expected to be held at 8am by Iskandar Puteri district police chief Assistant Commissioner Noor Hashim Mohamad. Participants are also eligible to take part in a lucky draw.
