Guan Eng 'mystified' by RoS' order for fresh polls

GEORGE TOWN: DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng is baffled by the Registrar of Societies' (RoS) order for the party to hold fresh polls for its central executive committee (CEC).
"Some delegates authorised to vote in the polls held in 2012 have either left the party or even passed away.
"One of them was former DAP chairman Karpal Singh.
"We are mystified by the RoS' statement that was issued four years after the polls in 2013, " Lim said in a press conference Sunday at Kampung Dodol in Perak Road.
He added that the party felt that the move was politically motivated and would jeopardise the DAP's preparation for the general election.
Lim said the party were still waiting for the letter from the RoS, adding that a meeting with them was needed to clear the air over the matter.
In a statement on Friday the RoS had said that it had no intention of deregistering DAP, but ordered the party to hold fresh elections for its CEC members.
Following complaints from DAP members, RoS had deemed that the re-election in 2013 was not carried out based on the list of delegates authorised to attend and vote in earlier polls held on Dec 15, 2012.
The polls in 2012 had involved 2,577 delegates from 865 branches.
