Foreign couple arrested in Tapah over death of 2-year-old

TAPAH: Police arrested a foreign woman and her boyfriend yesterday to assist in investigations into the death of the woman’s 2-year-old daughter at their squatter home in Kuala Bikam, Bidor here.
Perak police chief Datuk Hasnan Hassan said the Indonesian couple was arrested following the release of results of the toddler’s post-mortem, which revealed that the child died from bleeding in the brain caused by being bashed in the head with a blunt object.
"On Wednesday, police received a call from Teluk Intan Hospital that the girl was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital at 9.30pm.
"The post-mortem revealed that the cause of death was internal bleeding in the brain,” he said.
Hasnan said police then raided the couple's home in Kuala Bikam, where they were arrested to assist police in investigations.
"Police today obtained a seven-day remand order against them until July 27)," he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction.
