Ops Mega nets 373 illegal immigrants, 5 employers in KL this month

KUALA LUMPUR: Up to 373 illegal immigrants and five employers here have been nabbed as part of the Ops Mega operation so far this month.
Immigration Department director-general Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali said the City Immigration Department conducted 52 operations here from July 1 to July 15.
"897 foreign workers of various nationalities were screened, while 373 were arrested for various Immigration offenses.
"We also arrested five employers who had failed to register their workers for the Enforcement Card (E-Card)," he said at a press conference at the Home Ministry Complex here.
Mustafar said a nationwide operation by the Immigration Department to crack down on illegal foreign workers since the passing of the E-Card registration deadline on June 29 has so far seen 3,874 illegal immigrants nabbed.
He said the Immigration Department will continue its operation and ensure that stern action will be taken against employers who hire illegal foreign workers.
