DAP MP files emergency motion on remarks against Dr M

KUALA LUMPUR: A DAP lawmaker has submitted an emergency parliamentary motion to the Dewan Rakyat today over remarks made by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi against Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Teo Nie Ching (DAP - Kulai) said the motion was to urge Zahid to explain his alleged action of revealing the former premier's ancestry and private data yesterday.
She said the motion has been submitted and Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia is expected to respond to the matter within the next 24 hours.
"Zahid, who is also the Home Minister, had violated the Personal Data Protection Act by revealing Dr Mahathir's identity card.
"A minister that does not respect the law is a threat to the public. I urge Zahid to apologise and to be relieved of his duties as home minister to allow a fair probe by the police," she told a press conference in Parliament today.
In his keynote address at the Kelana Jaya Umno division meeting yesterday, Zahid was reported as saying that Dr Mahathir was using the Malays and Umno all this while on the “pretence” of championing the Malay agenda.
He also mentioned Dr Mahathir’s Indian ancestry and revealed that the latter's blue IC stated that his name was "Mahathir anak lelaki (son of) Iskandar Kutty and his IC number is 2232519".
Zahid also said that he received the information from the National Registration Department director-general.
