To defeat terrorists, we must win ideological war

Malaysia Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today stressed on the need to win the ideological war in the global fight against terrorism.
He said the battle could be won via authentic narratives of Islam which offer a better understanding of the religion.
"This is a serious threat. If we want to win the war against terrorism, it will need more than using weapons and making arrests," he said at the Prime Minister's Department’s monthly gathering.
Also present were Special Functions Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, who is also the Defence Minister; Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan; and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa.
Najib cited the numerous terrorist attacks lately, including in Kabul, London, Manchester, Jakarta and Marawi.
The Prime Minister also urged civil servants to continue building on the country's momentum of success, which has been recognised internationally.
Malaysia, he said, was among a handful of countries invited to deliver a speech at the recent Riyadh Forum on Countering Extremism and Fighting Terrorism.
Najib also pointed out that the current administration is a responsible government which delivers on its promises.

"As 2017 is the ‘year of delivery’, I want this government to be seen as capable of achieving its targets. We are not a government that makes empty promises," he added.
